Don’t like Black Desert but I like Lost Ark for the most part. Simple reason 
cause bdo is much worse in every aspect other than character creation
I never found it as bad as LA, not even close. (Also played since day one on and off for years).
Outside of maybe maxed accessories a new player can get max or near max gear (weapon + armor) within a month or two, especially if playing in a season. You also never need to actually enhance yourself, you can just buy gear on the market. Best of all you can share gear among alts so it’s actually a breeze to swap mains.
Also content isn’t strictly ilvl gated like in this game. Sure you might get wrecked by going to a difficult area but you can still go do anything with your friends.

I really liked BDO too, but I prefer PVE content compared to PVP.
I like raiding and dungeons above all else for games.

BDO Is beautiful graphically. But it is a very shallow, hollow game when it comes to PvE.
PvP is good in both BDO and LOA. LOA also has a far fairer progression system, and a robust PvE environment. Ontop of that, the amount of horizontal content in LOA is second to none.
Overall, to each their own, its ok to like multiple things. MMO Tribalism is a joke.
i dont play bdo anymore because after reaching 305ap with kutum offhand and dead god armor and pen blackstar etc. every single person i ever have played with has quit except 1. my guild lost interest in the game and we all quit which is a common occurance in every og guild actually. the guilds that started when the game released all played for 3-5 years and rose to prominence to the point that some of their guild members were given paid for flights by kakao games / pearl abyss to be casters/analysts for their arena of arsha irl tournament. but look at the guild listings today. its a completely different land scape. nearly every guild who ever mattered is gone. the dinosaurs are all dead. its just the gophers and rats left to replace them
overworld pvp has been dead since 2018
the policy in most high end guilds including mine was that if you want a gvg we will declare war on whoever you want so you can get rid of the guy trying to take your grind spot but that doesnt mean we are all going to rush over and be your babysitters/bodyguards because just like you we are going to be grinding spots ourselves or doing other things. weaker guilds on the flip side would immediately disappear into the wind the moment they realized they werent winning. i literally cannot in my memory remember the last time i had an exciting/fun gvg where both aides just duked it out.
node wars are so dead that when i still played roughly a year ago. 20-30% of all elligible node wars were snipes in which only one guild planted a fort to fight or 2-3 planted but all of them didnt show up except 1. thats insane. imagine getting all the guys together on a friday night and you plant on a highly contested node so that you can 1v3 whoever is there and get some fun. but the you realize that 2 if then are empty forts attempting to snipe and the only real guild brought 27 people for your guild of 83 to fight??? bruh
ever since 2018 or 2019 siege/conquest has been dead. half the guilds who take the region dont even want it because it locks them out of node wars. and nobody wants to sit on mediah or valencia for weeks and weeks only to get hp debuffs for staying longer than expected because nobody can beat them. they even added a mechanic where owning the region makes your guild get extra drop rate grinding within those regions and siege was still dead and region takers just donated the region to other guilds to sit on while they did node wars throughout the week instead
and dont get me started on the p2w. the original conversion rate of a cash shop costume ($34) was into 34,000,000 silver
as of today it is ($34) for a costume into over 800 million silver because nobody buys skins anymore so they need to keep buffing how much in game currency it sells for to entice people to p2w because pearl abyss has had dropping profits continuously ever since Q1 of 2021 now and even bdo mobile is dropping profits.
thats just the tip of the iceberg for p2w, every single mechanic is designed to inconvenience you into spending. it is statistically impossible to get your tier 8 or tier 9 horse to learn all the skills it needs without buying cash shop horse skill rerollers. becauses horses only have 30 levels and they have the smallest chance to learn one skill when leveling. on average a horse learns a skill every 2-4 levels except good horses such as my tier 9 doom have 25 skills to learn. that means a f2p player would need to hope to lord zeus that their horse ignores all probability and learns a skill almost every single level up
I prefer EVE than Black desert, much better than Lost ark and black desert together. But lost ark its fun for make a few raids eventually, not the game of my life.

Personally I play Lost Ark as a Side-game and Final Fantasy XIV as my Main game, and it works out really good.
To be fair these people aren’t wrong about their negative points about bdo if were talking about a older version of bdo, their going off of what they experienced years ago or by how they heard about it from sources who played it years ago so they dont know any better. The game has undergone so many new player changes am9ng other major changes that improved upon many things players complained, especially recently so if they havent played it recently they wouldnt kno.

To be fair I don’t think anyone actually plays lost ark right now
They just sit in queue waiting and praying for AGS to do something about the 400k bots so they can actually log in
BDO sucks. The combat is fantastic. The graphics were great(years ago). The life skills feel really good too. and thats about it…
-questing system is a joke
-no cohesive story or point to the game
-the translations are terrible
-0 endgame last time i played:
-no dungeons
-no raids
-literally nothing you can do with friends
-takes 10 million years to get from point a to point b. the entire game is just a time sink
and worst of all:
-pay2win is atrocious and ruins all of the fun of the game. Whales like to harass the shit out of free2play players to the point that they end up quitting the game. free2play cant even enjoy going out to sea and island exploring because whales have super mega warships that they patrol the ocean with and blow free2play players out of the water. then you have to spend 2 hours swimming back to shore to rub salt in your wounds after being griefed endlessly. usually leads to players uninstalling the game because its unfun.
-horrible honing system that breaks your items

ppl complaining here about honing…imagine if they start playing BDO with downgrades and jewerly that dissapear upon fail lol

As someone who still played BDO up until a month ago, I don’t think people realize that the scummy practices between BDO and LA aren’t that different. I enjoy playing LA now over BDO, but I can’t say for sure if it’s because LA is just the game I prefer or burnt out from playing BDO for years. In the end it’s hard to compare the two games since LA is PvE focused and BDO is PvP focused. One is a sandbox the other is instanced based.
The things I don’t like about LA are worse in BDO
- Daily chores in LA = Hours of running circles in BDO
- Honing system in LA is a lot more forgiving
- Slow release of outfits, but BDO is even slower
BDO has the best combat in any MMO hands down and at it’s highest settings is the best looking game as well. BDO’s paid service (value pack) is imo way better than LA’s (Crystalline Aura). One thing people don’t realize is with the value pack you have unlimited free character customizations and dyes to your outfits whereas in LA you have to pay everytime. People complain about the enhancement system of BDO, but honestly you don’t need to RNG your gear you can straight up save up silver and choose to buy a BiS gear from the marketplace. Once again though this does require hours of grinding every day.
BDO has an issue of creating a problem then selling you the solution. Although it does seems this past year a lot of their updates have revolved around either QoL or fixing the problems they created.
I think the biggest detriment to BDO at this point is also it’s best system, PvP. Even though BDO has the best combat it’s heavily bogged down by constant desync/lag issues. It’s also clear that the devs don’t understand their own game since their balance updates don’t make any sense or make the game worse.
In the end both games have their issues and I think it’s silly for people to discount BDO for P2W when it’s just as bad in LA.
How so? From my last comment:
I feel like a lot of people compare gear enhancement to each other in isolation without looking at the larger picture. Yes gear can break in BDO, but only past a certain enhancement level AND there’s only 20 levels in total AND you can just buy a higher level item on the auction house AND it’s basically good forever AND you can get to max in much less time.
How is LA better when you are on the gear treadmill forever, and every new content is gated by ilvl?
