Almost every time I return to my stronghold my butler tells me she’s got stuff for me “in my office”. Is this just when I have any work that’s completed, or is there an actual office I need to go check in to?

Answered my own question with a little test. Yeah, it just means I have tasks that have completed.

True, I asked myself the same
